In the Spotlight

NBC's "Today Show" arrived in Vancouver on a rainy Monday morning, yesterday, February 2, to get the scoop on the "city name fuss." Co-anchor Jenna Wolfe interviewed Elson Strahan, Vancouver National Trust president, Hilton Vancouver Washington general manager Gerry Link, and Kim Bennett, president of the Southwest Washington Convention & Visitors Burea.

Following the interviews, Wolfe and her crew headed to Beaches Restaurant & Bar for lunch -- Vancouver USA style.

The interviews are scheduled to air on February 14, 2010 on the show.

  • Member insurance agent Tony Johnson has earned an "Accredited Advisor in Insurance" professional designation from the American Institute for CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) and Insurance Institute of America. He completed a six-month course with the institutes to achieve the accreditation. Johnson is a commercial insurance agent with Davidson Insurance of Vancouver.
  • Barbara Bushell is the newly elected 2010 chairwoman of the Columbia River Economic Development Council's board of directors. She is director of leasing for PacTrust, a part-owner and the manager of Columbia Tech Center. She replaces Kelly McDonald of Clark County Title on the CREDC board.
  • Prudential Northwest Properties announced the addition of new agent Brad Lothspeich at Columbia Tech Center in east Vancouver.

News & Events

  • KeyBank will open its newest branch in its Oregon and Southwest Washington District on January 25 at 19161 S. E. Mill Plain Blvd. on Vancouver’s east side. Key’s new Columbia Tech Center location in Vancouver is located near JC Penney, Wal-Mart and a growing collection of retailers. It will provide service and convenience for neighbors, shoppers and business operators. This branch replaces the nearby Fisher’s Landing branch which is being closed.
  • State Reps. Deb Wallace (D-Vancouver) and Tim Probst (D-Vancouver) invite residents from the 17 th legislative district to visit Olympia for a tour of the Capitol and a lunch discussion of the session’s top issues on Wed., Feb. 3, 11 a.m. Residents wanting to participate should contact Wallace’s Legislative Assistant Meagan Sharp at (360) 786-7976 or sharp.meagan@leg.wa.gov for information about security protocols and specific meeting locations.
  • Bart Hansen, Clark Public Utilities office manager, is the newly appointed Vancouver City Council member, replacing Mayor Tim Leavitt's vacant position. Hansen will be sworn in on February 1, 2010.
  • Author and professor Paul Collins will be the next guest speaker in Clark College’s renowned Columbia Writers Series.  Collins will appear on Wednesday, Feb. 10 from noon to 1 p.m. in the Penguin Student Lounge, located in Clark’s Penguin Union Building.  The event is free and open to the public.   • Member Veronika (Ronnie) Noize of SoHo Marketing announced the monthly meeting of the CLARK COUNTY ASSOCIATION OF MARKETING PROFESSIONALS on Mon., Feb. 15, 2010, 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.The association meets the second Monday of every month from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The meeting location is at the SoHo Marketing Institute, 953 Officers Row, Vancouver, WA.
